Front Leg
2. Front Leg Assembly¶
In this step, we will assemble the front legs of the Robot Dog and mount them on the ice cream stick servo motor horn assembly prepared in the previous step.
The front leg assembly uses two cardboard front legs, screws, nuts, and the servo horn mechanism. This mechanism allows the servo motor to move the front legs forward and backward during walking.

Parts Required¶
| Part | Quantity | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Front legs | 2 | Cardboard front leg pieces |
| Screws | 4 | Used to fix the legs to the ice cream stick / horn assembly |
| Nuts | 4 | Used to lock the screws in place |
| Servo motor horn assembly | 1 | Prepared in the previous step using servo motor, horn, and ice cream stick |
Assembly Instructions¶
1. Identify the Front Legs¶
Take the two cardboard front leg pieces.
Each leg has a rounded shape and a center marking line. The rounded end should face downward when the Robot Dog is standing.
Keep both front legs ready before fixing them to the servo horn assembly.
2. Place the Servo Horn Assembly¶
Take the servo motor horn assembly created in the previous step.
The ice cream stick should be fixed to the servo horn and should act as a support bar for the two front legs.
Place the servo motor on the table with the ice cream stick facing horizontally.
3. Align the Front Legs¶
Place one front leg on the left side of the ice cream stick and the other front leg on the right side.
Make sure:
- Both legs are facing the same direction.
- The rounded ends of both legs are pointing downward.
- The legs are aligned evenly.
- The center line on both legs is approximately at the same height.
4. Insert the Screws¶
Insert the screws through the holes in the front legs and ice cream stick.
Use two screws for each leg.
The screws should pass through:
Do not fully tighten the screws at first. Keep them slightly loose until both legs are aligned properly.
5. Tighten the Nuts¶
After both legs are aligned, tighten the nuts gently.
Make sure the legs are fixed firmly, but do not overtighten. Overtightening may damage the cardboard leg or restrict the movement.
6. Check the Leg Movement¶
Slowly rotate the servo horn by hand.
The front legs should move together smoothly.
Check the following:
- The legs should not touch the servo body.
- The legs should not be loose.
- The ice cream stick should not bend too much.
- The servo horn should remain fixed to the servo shaft.
- The screws and nuts should not block movement.
7. Final Front Leg Assembly Check¶
Your front leg assembly is complete when:
- Both front legs are mounted on the ice cream stick.
- Both legs are parallel to each other.
- Screws and nuts are properly tightened.
- The servo motor can move the leg assembly freely.
- The front legs are balanced and not tilted.
Important Notes¶
- Do not force the servo horn while adjusting the legs.
- If the legs are not aligned, loosen the nuts slightly and adjust again.
- Make sure both legs are fixed at the same height.
- Keep the servo wire free so it does not get pulled during movement.
- The front leg assembly should be firm but should not be too tig
